INVESTMENT MANAGER


Dr. Doug Hyatt, PhD


Dr. Hyatt leads the management team. He is a Professor of Business Economics at the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto. He began his career as a banker, and then as an economist with the Ontario Ministry of Finance. He has worked with a number of firms as they have executed strategic acquisitions and other private equity transactions. For a number of years, Dr. Hyatt has provided litigation support in legal matters that require estimation of value of economic losses incurred by individuals and firms. He is also active in copyright and intellectual property valuation. Dr. Hyatt teaches micro- and macro-economics in the Executive MBA program and has published a number of articles and books on economics issues ranging from risk sharing in pension plans to child care and workers’ compensation.
   
FORMER UNIVERSITY ADVISOR


Dr. Tom Corr, DBA, MBA


Over the past three years, Dr. Corr was pivotal in identifying new investment opportunities at Ontario universities for consideration by First Leaside Visions II LP and its predecessor partnership, First Leaside Visions I LP. With investments in seven start-up companies now having been made by those two partnerships, Dr. Corr has completed his mandate as University Advisor. Currently, Dr. Corr is the Chief Executive Officer of the Ontario Centres of Excellence. His background combines both the university research community and the business world. Most recently, he served as Associate Vice-President of Commercialization at the University of Waterloo and CEO of the Waterloo Research and Technology Park Accelerator Centre. He also served for three years as Director of Commercialization—IT and Communications, at Innovations at the University of Toronto which manages the commercialization of the inventions that are created as a result of the $2-million per day that the University of Toronto spends on R&D. Dr. Corr has more than 30 years of experience in the technology industry, including 20 years as CEO of companies ranging from start-ups to $50-million publicly listed companies, and is a director of a number of Canadian and U.S. technology companies. He holds an MBA from the University of Toronto, an Advanced Post Graduate Degree in Management Consulting from Henley Management College, a Doctor of Business Administration degree from Brunel University/Henley Management College, and received his professional corporate director (ICD.D) designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors. Dr. Corr also teaches in the Masters of Engineering Program at the Xerox Centre for Entrepreneurship at McMaster University.
